Checklist for Your FSSAI Application: Documents Needed

How to Obtain Your Food Safety and Standards Authority of India License: A Detailed Guide FoSCoS Process

Is your application completed? All the work is done on only one platform, the FoSCoS (Food Safety Compliance System) site. This is the new, modern system that has replaced the old FSSAI FLRS.

Let me show you the steps one by one.

Step 1: Go to the FoSCoS portal.

Get to the FSSAI official portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in (this is an external link to the official government webpage).

Step 2: Register (Create a User ID)

"Sign-Up" on the website.

Fill name, email, and mobile number and other related details to create a unique User ID and password.

Verify your mobile phone and email through OTP.

Step 3: Obtain the License/Registration.

On the dashboard click "License/Registration" and then "Apply for New License/Registration" which will be a dropdown menu.

Step 4: choosing your state and "kind of business" (KoB).

Start with selecting the state where your company is situated.

A comprehensive list of "Kind of Business" (KoB) will appear after that, shown by categories like "Manufacturer," "Retailer," "Food Services" (restaurants), "Transporter," etc.

This is the most crucial step. The system will automatically decide whether you qualify for a Basic, State, or Central license depending on the KoB you select and the turnover (or production) you indicate.

So, hypothetically, if a person selects "Food Services" compared to "Restaurant" and writes their turnover as "Above 12 Lakh and up to 20 Crore," they will be redirected to the State License application.

Step 5: Completing the application form (Form A or B).

The website is going to show the respective form now that the decision is made based on the license type (Form A for Basic, and Form B for State/Central). You are required to fill all the information asked, correctly.

Step 6: Upload the documents.

Locate clean and readable copies of your documents by scanning them and then uploading the files to the appropriate places on the platform.

Step 7: Make the payment.

Select the validity that you want (1-5 years) and pay the amount that results (for example, ₹100 x 5 years = ₹500) through Net Banking, Card, or UPI.

Step 8: Keep the ARN.

After the transaction, the 17-digit Application Reference Number (ARN) that is created should be kept. So, this is the way you will be able to monitor your application progress.

Step 9: Scrutiny and Inspection

Basic registration: Generally, it is granted within 7-10 days without physical inspection.

State/Central License: The officer will inspect your documents and, for the inspection, he/she may visit your place. The process can take up to sixty days.

Step 10: Get Certificate

After getting the approval (confirmation via Email/SMS), go to your FoSCoS account and download the digital certificate of FSSAI.
