Prayas, the name of an international organization for migration, launched this program so that Indian workers and students could migrate in a secure and regular manner. The project PRAYAS, or Promoting Regular Assisted Migration for Youth besides Skilled Professionals, was launched in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Established in 1951, IOM is a United Nations (UN) agency that is enthusiastic about promoting humane and orderly migration. PRAYAS is one of the first to consolidate all the state-level initiatives for safe, orderly, and well-managed international migration, said IOM. These projects aim to instill a scientific temper, develop novel ideas, and prepare research proposals for noble causes while also addressing local or global contemporary challenges.

Linking School and Higher Education: One of the standout features of the PRAYAS Scheme is its emphasis on creating meaningful linkages between school education and Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs). This collaboration optimizes the learning and teaching relationship, fostering scientific temper, evidence-based thinking, creativity, innovativeness, logical mental, and problem-solving skills.

2. Experiential Learning: PRAYAS promotes experiential learning, providing students with hands-on experience in scientific research besides investigation.

Eligibility Criteria and Research Grant

PRAYAS is open to students aged 14–18 who are enrolled in classes IX-XI. Students can apply individually or in groups of up to two, along with a teacher from their school and an expert from an HEI. A tutor from the school who is a postgraduate teacher (PGT) teaching science, physics, chemistry, mathematics, or biology to classes 9 to 12 is eligible. Authorities from HEI should be from any discipline of science and technology.

Each selected research offer will receive a grant of Rs. 50,000, distributed as follows: Rs. 10,000 for the student(s) and Rs. 20,000 each for the school, in addition to HEI experts as catalytic grants. The grant will be released in two installments, with the first installment provided within a month of the project's selection.
